Want to know how to protect yourself from coronavirus disease? Read on.
As the number of positive cases in Nigeria continues to increase, it is important we do everything possible to curtail the spread of the virus. One of the many ways is to ensure you don’t get infected.
The Federal Government of Nigeria is taking every precaution necessary to control the spread and to prevent an outbreak across the country. Some of the measures taken are restriction of travelers from countries with over one thousand cases, closure of schools for a period of one month, shutting down of operations of international airports from international travels, banning of public gatherings of more than 50 persons, and so on.
While the government and all necessary agencies are doing well enough to prevent an outbreak, we citizens also have roles to pay. We have to be responsible and that’s why it’s important you prevent yourself from contracting the disease.
In this post, I’ll show you measures you need to take to prevent yourself from coronavirus disease, Covid-19.
Every precaution mentioned in this post are as advised and recommended by the agencies and bodies, both local and international, with the authority to do so, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health.
How to Protect Yourself from Coronavirus
The first and most important way to protect yourself is to avoid contact with sick people.
As recommended by the NCDC:
- Avoid contact with people that are sick.
- Avoid handshakes.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap under running water or use alcohol-based sanitizer if water is not available.
- Cover your mouth and nose properly with a tissue paper when sneezing and/or coughing. Dispose of the tissue properly immediately after use. You may also cough into your elbow if a tissue is not available.
- Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.

And also, practice SOCIAL DISTANCING. Sit at home. Work from home. Avoid unnecessary outings. Strictly comply with all government orders and regulations.
Avoid social gatherings. Suspend owambes. Pray at home. No “bless you” for anyone who sneezes, leave immediately.
Protecting yourself is protecting the society and the country. We all know how bad things are over here. We can’t contain the virus if there is an outbreak.
Don’t take chances. This too shall pass. Normalcy will return quickly if we obey the government.
